The Odd Relationship Between ‘Hello City’ by Barenaked Ladies and ‘Hello Shitty’ by Bayside.

This is something I noticed a while ago and it has just been bugging me ever since: The song titles of the first songs on a Bayside album and the first song on a Barenaked Ladies album are remarkably similar.

Barenaked Ladies ‘Gordon’ also holds the record for ‘Most 90’s Album Cover’

The first song on Barenaked Ladies’ first album (Called ‘Gordon’) is a song called ‘Hello City’. The first song on Bayside’s self-titled album is a song called ‘Hello Shitty’.

I know it could well be a coincidence, but for the song titles to be so similar, and for them both to be the first songs on the album, and for the bands to have band names that are close together alphabetically (so they would show up next to one another in a music library such as iTunes…) – It all seems like it was intentional to me!

I think it was probably a little nod from Bayside to what would be their music-library neighbours, when deciding on song titles. The actual subjects of the songs are pretty different, so that’s where this tenuous comparison ends!

Am I just crazy? Has anyone else ever noticed this and thought the same? I can’t be the only person who listens to both Bayside AND Barenaked Ladies!
